Pizzagirl (abgesagt)

PIZZAGIRL

Box fresh, hyperactive and essential, Pizzagirl (aka Liam Brown) is one of the UK’s most white-knuckle songwriters. Raised on a diet of rom-coms and mixtapes, it wasn’t long before Pizzagirl was studying at the school of bedroom pop. Collecting his mortarboard and graduating with honours, this pop prince is now poised to break new ground.

While 2018’s ‘An Extended Play‘and ‘season 2’, plaited together wonky 1-900-hotline-rock, ambient infomercial electronica and woozy 80s film scores into perfect pop pigtails. With debut album proper, ‘first timer’, Liam styles the rest of the Pizzagirl mannequin to deliver a record of split-personality genre jumping. Long-sleeved emo base layer? You bet. 70s yacht rock tee with obligatory tour dates on the reverse? Check. Skinny new wave pants? Goes without saying. Neon synth-pop golf visor. Obviously.“I like contradiction, I like the idea of it being a bit wacky –a pick n mix of all my favourite styles.”  The result is a wide-ranging sound that connects the dots between John Hughes soundtracks, Gus Dapperton’s melodic fluidity and the AM-radio aesthetic of Ariel Pink.

Plaudits from The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Vice, Highsnobiety, NME, DIY and The Line of Best Fit confirm Pizzagirl’s status as a unique, quick-witted and vital energy. DJs are also lining up to call themselves fans, with the UK’s most trusted ears in Annie Mac and Huw Stephens atRadio 1and Lauren Laverne, Shaun Keaveny, and Radcliffe & Maconie at BBC 6 Music all backing his tracks.
